Darwins Holdings Limited is the U.K.'s arm to the Sterling Fluid Systems Group and made up from other Industries throughout Germany, France and Spain. The sand casted components are made from specialised steels for critical applications in petrochemical and food industries. Customers include David Brown Union Pumps and Weir Pumps. Most of the skilled workforce are apprentice trained from the age of 16 to 19. People with an aptitude for craftmanship can enquire about an apprenticeship with the company in 2006 by contacting Mr Herron. M.D. Also onsite is a comprehensive NDT (Non Destructive Testing) establishment that tests all components for international certification. The Industry has been based on Sheffield Road since 1924 and has a long history before that. Planning is going ahead to increase production with the introduction of new furnaces. This will in turn require more skilled craftsmen to carry the industry forward and to maintain Sheffield at the forefront of specialist steel making.
