Tinsley Green

Its official - Tinsley Parents and Children’s Consortium (TPCC) is Outstanding!

The Children’s Centre Nursery moved into their brand new eco-friendly building on Tinsley Green during the summer of 2006, and have continued to go from strength to strength, culminating in an Ofsted report declaring them to be ‘outstanding’.

Tinsley Children’s Centre Nursery have benefited from a grant of £443,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to develop a community health eating café and new services for parents, and these services are commended as part of the Ofsted report.

"The comments from the Ofsted inspectors are brilliant!" says Cllr Harry Harpham, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Sheffield City Council

"The support that staff give to children and their families is clearly way beyond the norm and it’s great that Ofsted would consider the Children’s Centre Nursery to be outstanding.

"Tinsley is certainly on the up, and the new centre is making a huge difference to services for families."

Sally Pearse, Project Manager of Tinsley Parents and Children’s Consortium said; "It is fantastic to see the work we have done to provide a good start for children being recognised. What is particularly rewarding is the fact that a lot of the staff are local people who have trained with the project and whose families now use the services we offer".

Tinsley Children’s Centre is the successor to Tinsley Sure Start and you can read the full report is now available on the Ofsted website.

Tinsley Green Recreation Ground

Tinsley Recreation Ground

Sheffield City Council have worked with the Parks Woodlands and Countryside Department to transform the Tinsley Recreation Ground.

The newly designed sports provision includes a multi games area, cricket nets and wickets, an upgraded kickabout pitch and paths providing a jogging circuit around the park.

Two new playgrounds are also provided, one is for a new “Sure Start” centre which is also being provided within the park, the other is for general use.

New and improved entrances make the recreation ground more attractive and inviting with improved boundaries along Bawtry Road. A quiet picnic area has been created with extensive tree and shrub planting and new pathways with block wooden seating.

The community consultation around the Regeneration of the Tinsley Recreation Ground stressed the need for a recreation ground for the whole family, which resulted in the final layout containing the features mentioned above.

The programme for carrying out the work started in Spring 2005 to May 2006 with the total cost being in the region of £550,000.

Funds have been provided by the City Council, Living Spaces, Meadowhall, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, Section 106 (planning obligation) funding, Sheffield Town Trust, Housing Market Renewal, Graves Trust, Yorkshire Forward, Active England and Outokumpu.
